All Victorian greenhouses include aluminum PRO210 corner L brackets (also called angle brackets or anchor posts) to be attached to the foundation base frame that extend an additional 12” below ground level. The VI 36 and 46 include an additional pair of PRO210's to use at the midpoint of the long wall. If you are in a high wind area or are trying to meet the structural specifications for a permit - you may wish to purchase additional PRO210 corner anchor posts for use at the vertical members.

Some users have chosen a variety of alternative anchoring methods based on their climate, location, soil composition, and site considerations. These include full concrete slabs, concrete footers, pier and beam constructions, and even timbers. If you are considering the use of wood in your construction, be aware that your greenhouse will likely outlast your wood. If you use pressure-treated wood, it is recommended to use a barrier material between the wood and the aluminum frame. When planning your anchoring method, you should keep in mind frost line/ground heaving, wind load, greenhouse location, ground composition, weather, climate, and local building code. If you are unsure, you should consult with a local and experienced builder. Janssens Warranty coverage does not extend to damage resulting from improper anchoring of the greenhouse outside of the manufacturer’s recommendations (see the official Janssens Assembly Manual for your greenhouse).

For the anchoring to your concrete slab or perimeter footing - there are 4 basic recommendations, in addition to the 4 or 6 corner aluminum angle PRO210 anchor posts that come with your greenhouse.

Anchoring the Corners

Preferred way: Embedding the corner anchors into your concrete.

Refer to the foundation and anchoring pages in your manual. You can see the recommended embedded usage of the PRO210's to anchor the corners. The most secure way to anchor the greenhouse is to embed the anchor posts into the concrete. The manufacturer recommends an 8” wide concrete strip foundation that extends down to the frost line in your area. Please consult your local building codes for this information. It is recommended to leave a 4” diameter hole at the corner for the anchors to be embedded in concrete after the greenhouse frame is assembled and it is confirmed to be level and square. You can also place a PVC pipe or Sonotube embedded into your concrete. The PVC or Sonotube should be at least 4” wide in diameter.

Alternate way: Cutting the corners anchor posts and using concrete screws.

If needed and the voids for the corner PRO210's were not included in the foundation pour, the PRO210's can be used to connect the two PRO6120's in the corner, then cut flush to the slab, and the remaining leftover parts of the PRO210 can be cut into three pieces and used as angle brackets to attach the corners to the foundation. This assumes there is an adequate 'inside lip' on the foundation from the inside of the greenhouse frame.

Steps:

You will have (4) 15 3/4” long PRO210 L brackets. Contact us for the specific spacing plan for your greenhouse. For example for the M34 Modern: Exterior greenhouse corner to center of 1st PRO1456 glazing bar/stud is ~ 32”.
