Premium Western Red Cedar: Naturally durable, weather-resistant, and beautifully grained for a classic, rustic charm. Grade 1 - no knots, precision milled. The wood is dipped in a special solution to age better and prevent water absorption. The wood comes in its natural colors from light to dark.
All Alton greenhouses are treated in the factory with a clear, spirit-based protective treatment. This allows the cedar to mellow to its silvery-grey color evenly over the first year or so of its life. Customers who wish to preserve the original cedar color often apply an additional treatment, such as Osmo oil, before assembly. However, cedar is used for greenhouses because of its natural rot-resistant properties, which means that in practice, constant re-treatment is not essential for a long lifespan. Your ten-year guarantee protects you against rot, even if you never treat it (although you must clean it once a year to remove algae, moss, etc.).
