Alton Western Cedar Greenhouse Features
Mortice and Tenon Joints
This cleverly engineered joint system not only simplifies the assembly process, making construction straightforward and hassle-free, but also significantly enhancing the strength and durability of the framework. This combination ensures a robust, reliable structure that is both easy to assemble and built to last.
Aluminum Base
The aluminum base is designed to keep wood away from areas where water tends to collect. This innovative feature allows the glass to sit directly on the metal base, preventing side water from running onto the wood—a common cause of rot in other greenhouses—ensuring greater durability and longevity.
Toughened Glass
The 3mm toughened safety glass used is in large panes which means that every pane is helping the rigidity of the overall structure. Toughened glass is 5-7 times stronger than standard horticultural glass. If it breaks, it will disintegrate into hundreds of small pieces which greatly reduce the chances of injury.
Thick Glazing Timber Bars
Alton greenhouses feature 44x44mm timber glazing bars, with 44x69mm timber used in key areas to ensure quality. To remain cost-effective, Alton has optimized the process by delivering greenhouses in a flat-pack format, reducing handling and storage costs. This approach guarantees both durability and exceptional value.
Guttering
Every model includes a functional guttering system that efficiently channels water away and allows for easy collection. The Victorian model features a larger gutter compared to the standard Evolution series, providing enhanced water management and collection capabilities for added convenience and functionality.
Roof Vents
Each model includes a generous number of roof vents, all equipped with automatic openers as standard. These clever mechanical devices use heat expansion to gradually open and close the vents based on temperature changes. No electricity needed. Fully adjustable, they help you to create the ideal growing environment.
Louvers
The Alton Greenhouse includes one or more louvre windows, designed to work with the roof vents. As warm air escapes through the roof vents, cooler air is drawn in through the louvres, enhancing airflow. Positioned near the bottom, top, side, or rear, they come with manual openers but can be upgraded to automatic.
Door Handle
Victorian Alton greenhouses feature a hinged door with a low threshold as standard, ensuring easy access. The hinges are crafted from high-quality stainless steel for durability and longevity, and the door handle includes a secure mortice lock, providing both functionality and enhanced security for your greenhouse.
Door System
The Alton Greenhouse door system features a low-profile threshold, eliminating the step commonly found in other greenhouses. This design ensures easy access. Models 8 ft wide and above include 4 ft wide double doors, providing ample space for wheelbarrows, wheelchairs, and effortless entry, making it a practical and user-friendly choice.
Eaves Height
With a generous eaves height of 5'7", the Alton Evolution models stand up to 18 inches taller than many standard greenhouses. This added height offers key benefits: improved air circulation for a better growing environment, more headroom, a taller door for easier access, and ample space for high-level shelving.
Extendable Length
The EIGHT, TEN, and TWELVE wide greenhouse models are perfect for serious gardeners, offering the flexibility to extend to any length. You can customize your greenhouse to suit your needs, such as a 10x30 ft or any size in 2-foot increments, ensuring it fits your space and growing requirements perfectly.
Aluminum Bar Capping
The new aluminum bar capping system ensures a virtually maintenance-free cedar greenhouse. The stylish moss color seamlessly complements the cedar, which naturally ages to a distinctive silvery hue. This combination of durability and aesthetic appeal enhances the greenhouse’s longevity and visual appeal over time.
Victorian Ridge Cresting (Optional)
Made from solid cast aluminum, the Victorian ridge cresting adds timeless charm and elegance to any greenhouse. Its intricate design enhances the aesthetic appeal, reflecting classic Victorian craftsmanship. This decorative feature transforms the greenhouse from a functional structure into a standout, refined statement piece in any garden.
Aluminum Staging Shelf (Optional)
The aluminum staging shelf adds vital extra storage space in the greenhouse and helps you to create a most efficient set-up. It's height adjustable and wheelchair friendly. The 'no-legs' Cantilever set up means you can use the floor under the staging effectively for heavy pots or bags of compost without cluttering your main path.
